“Temaslar Kabinesi: Hiç ormana gitmedim”
23 Ekim Çarşamba günü 5533’te açılıyor. Sergi, Umut Tasa’nın 2011’den beri amatör bir doğa gözlemcisi olarak kent yabanından topladığı “temaslarını”, yıllar sonra sanat aracılığıyla yeniden okuyarak ürettiği işleri içinden, ağırlıkla böceklere odaklanan bir kesit sunuyor.

Temaslar Kabinesi, kolonyalizmle ortaya çıkan ve müzecilikten koleksiyonerliğe, modernitenin çeşitli toplama ve sergileme pratiklerine öncülük eden “Meraklar Kabinesi” (Cabinet of curiosities) koleksiyonlarından biçimsel olarak ilham alıyor. Bununla birlikte, bu kabinelerin doğayı nesneleştiren ve iktidar üreten pratiklerine eleştirel bir tavrı araştırıyor. “Oradaki” değil “buradaki” doğaya, doğanın “nesneliğine” değil onunla kurduğumuz “ilişkilere”, kent yabanının fenomenolojisine işaret ediyor.

“Cabinet of Contacts: I have never been to the forest” opens at 5533 on Wednesday, 23rd October. The exhibition is based on the “contacts” that Umut Tasa, an amateur naturalist since 2011, has collected from the urban wild over the years. Revisiting her collection through art, she presents a selection of works in the exhibition that primarily focuses on elements of insects.

In terms of form, Cabinet of Contacts draws inspiration from the “Cabinets of Curiosities” that emerged with colonialism and played a pioneering role in various modern practices of collection and exhibition, yet it explores a critical stance toward such practices that objectify nature and produce power relations. Instead of focusing on a sense of nature “out there” and its “objectness,” it points to our “relations” with nature and the phenomenology of the urban wildlife that is “here.”
