“Big Family Business”
An Open Office for Everybody

Organized by Adnan Yıldız and Ester Lu

September 10–November 10, 2007

“Big Family Business” was an open office for everybody. People visiting the 10th International Istanbul Biennial used this space that was a hot spot offering free Internet, free speech, free games, and free coffee and tea. It was not only a space to work and meet other people, but also a program within itself. A series of events, workshops, talks, screenings and discussions were included in “Big Family Business.” Calling themselves “Good Gangsters”, Adnan Yıldız & Esther Lu”, materialized this collaborative work. Considering the quasi-kinship relationships and mobility in the art community, the project aimed to provide a discussion-oriented program that was shaped through the process. “Good Gansgters” planned an organizational structure in which curators, artists and other professionals could collaborate at different levels of interaction through non-hierarchical communication. Guest Project Coordinators were Övül Durmuşoğlu and Öykü Özsoy and Guest participants inluded Annie Fletcher, geraldkidd, Ahmet Öğüt, Nancy Atakan, David Blandy, and Minna L. Henriksson
